Our Story

After a lifetime of searching for my place in this world, always in pursuance of the kind of magic that feeds the soul, I was fortunate to discover my passion for flowers...both in growing and designing with them. As I began to share my passion with others, it struck me just how much flowers can touch people’s lives. Whether it’s simply brightening someone’s day, flooding us with lovely memories from the past, or inspiring us with big dreams for the future, I’m thrilled to be able to provide such a valuable gift!

In the summer of 2014, I visited a charming little garden in Alaska where I encountered my first dahlias and got a close up view of many gorgeous heirloom varieties, all perfect for cutting. I remember thinking that I had to grow flowers like that…their beauty left me completely captivated. After spending time in Alaska surrounded by the most breathtaking natural beauty imaginable, I began longing for a slower lifestyle, one that would allow me to live with more intention and grow a deeper connection to nature. I was determined to find a way to maintain that magical connection I had felt, and hoped I could encourage others to discover the same in flowers.

The following spring, I dug up my back yard and started my own cut flower garden. I was obsessed with researching anything and everything about flowers, design, and sustainable growing…pouring over books, reading blogs, talking to anyone who had some flower knowledge to bestow onto me. The idea of getting back to nature, living a slower paced life, and maintaining a feeling of connection to our land was the catalyst that soon transformed my passion for flowers into entrepreneurship.

With the support of my family and friends, I began Sterling Stems in 2017 with the dream of bringing beautiful, local flowers, and garden-inspired floral design to the community. From our humble beginnings growing flowers in my tiny yard and my mother in law’s land, to now having a farm we call our own, we are so happy to be sharing our journey with you.
